Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will officially open the Department’s two new decentralised offices in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo and in Na Forbacha, Co. Galway on the 17th and 18th July 2008.
Under the Decentralisation Programme, a total of 140 staff members from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will relocate to Charlestown, Co. Mayo. Of this 140 staff, a total of 101 have now already relocated to an interim location in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo and the Minister is opening the new offices to accommodate them. This figure of 101 represents in excess of 72% of the staff to be relocated them and is a significant milestone for the Department.
In relation to the acquisition of a site for the Department’s Headquarters at Charlestown, Co. Mayo, the Department is progressing matters with the OPW, and as required, will also be liaising further with the Department of Finance on this project.
Under the Decentralisation Programme, it was also agreed that 10 posts from the Department would relocate to Na Forbacha, Co. Galway. These posts have now all relocated to Na Forbacha and this element of the decentralisation process is complete, with the Minister also officially opening the new offices in Na Forbacha on the 18th July.
Minister Ó Cuív said, “I am delighted to be officially opening new offices for my Department in both Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo and Na Forbacha, Co Galway. It is very appropriate that the offices in Tubbercurry are being opened on the 17th July 2008, as this date marks the second anniversary of the first interim move of my Department to Tubbercurry.
I am also very pleased that the decentralisation process and relocation of staff from my Department to Na Forbacha, Co. Galway has been completed, with the work from the Polasaí Gaeilge and Acht Teanga areas of my Department now located in the Galway Offices.
It is a tribute to the staff that the decentralisation process has been so successful in my Department and I am delighted to note that all the Community, Rural and Gaeltacht programmes operated by my Department are now being delivered from decentralised offices.”
